Winnipeg, MB, Calgary, AB (May 5, 2009); Online Business Systems, a leading North American consultancy for business and technology solutions, announced today that they have awarded University scholarships for the 2008/2009 school year to Derek Cormier from the University of Manitoba and Shawn Freeman from the University of Calgary.
Online created the “Code Like a Rock Star” scholarship in 2007 to provide assistance to outstanding second year Computer Science students from the University of Manitoba and University of Calgary. Recipients can then re-apply in their third and fourth years to receive further funding. The 2007/2008 scholarship recipients – Alyson Teterenko, Ryan da Silva, and Chris Hildebrand from the U of M, and Jessica Szeto from the U of C – all chose to re-apply this year.
The “Code Like a Rock Star” scholarship was formed as the result of an idea presented by a senior Project Manager in Online’s Winnipeg office: “Achieving academic excellence at a university level requires significant commitment for students and this type of award helps those going to school focus less on part-time work and more on studies. This program demonstrates the value Online Business Systems places on the pursuit of higher education.”
