Shane Kilgallen is Online’s Director, Business Consulting Services and works out of Central Region and is located in Winnipeg, MB.

Tell us about your career at Online?

You could say that I grew up professionally within Online – I have been an Onliner for the past 18 years!  When I started with Online I had basic technical competency and good sensibilities.  Over the last 18 years, Online has given me the opportunity to explore my areas of passion and help me understand where I can add the most value and perform the activities that I love to do.  My career has certainly evolved – I started as a Software Developer, became an Analyst then Business Consultant to my current role as Director where I get to now help shape our team and carefully improve our Business Consulting services.

What would other Onliners say you are known for?

I like to ask the question “Why?”  I think that question engages people in conversation while making everyone comfortable about the topic or business problem we are trying to resolve/improve.

What was the most memorable project you’ve worked on?

FPPS for the Canadian Wheat Board was a labour of love.  I was lucky enough to identify the client need and Online’s superb fit, play an important part in the pursuit, and have a lead role in the delivery.  It was a great project with a great team (both Onliners and clients).

Why do you like working at Online?

We choose Onliners carefully which means that everyday I get to work alongside people that are very smart, very motivated, and very dedicated.  It is a rare privilege to be immersed within such a team.

What do you think are the top five key elements to excellent client relationships?

  1. Understanding the client’s needs at a deep level
  2. Developing a communication style/plan/cadence that is tailored to the way each client wants to communicate
  3. Demonstrating that both parties have needs in the relationship and that both parties benefit from a strong relationship
  4. Delivering on your commitments
  5. Setting expectations carefully and avoiding surprises
